Heungdeoksa Temple, the Birthplace of Jikji
(Online Special Exhibition)

By expanding the background of Jikji Publication to Heungdeoksa Temple and Buddhism in Cheongju, it aims to explore its origin and meaning.

Amidst the COVID-19 global pandemic in 2019, interest and attention on online content are now more concentrated than ever. Accordingly, we strive to communicate with global citizens through the stories of Jikji and Heungdeoksa Temple, which are planned as an online exhibition.

The Buddhist culture and the activities of the monks in Cheongju, which became the background for the development of metal type printing in Cheongju and the publication of Jikji, can be inferred from the literature and old remains. In particular, the metal Buddhist crafts excavated from the ruins are beautiful works that show the casting techniques and aesthetics of the times. Also, an attempt can be made to find Buddhists who supported the Buddhist culture of Cheongju and patrons who participated in the publication of Jikji.

Various heritages surrounding Jikji are preparing to communicate with visitors using images, videos, and interesting explanations from a new perspective.
