Jikji Festival aims to interpret, express, share, and empathize with Jikji-related cultural activities, content development, academic research, and international exchanges' in various cultural formats, which are evidence of the 'invention of metal type printing' that sparked the knowledge and information revolution of mankind, and to promote and spread the vision and values ​​of Jikji, thereby uplifting the communal pride and self-esteem of Cheongju citizens and contributing to regional development.

  • The Jikji Festival celebrates the grandeur of the invention of metal type printing, and strives to become an event that develops and spreads its value. In addition, it also strives to make Jikji special districts including the Cheongju Early Printing Museum and Heungdeoksa Temple a symbol of Cheongju.
  • Based on active citizen participation, the Jikji Festival is held, providing a system to allow the creativity of the private sector to be expressed, while the public can actively support it. Jikji Festival will develop contents in cooperation with local art groups and artists and contribute to the development of local culture and arts.
  • Through the Jikji Festival, we will create new achievements in Jikji, accumulate the results, and operate and manage them so that they can be used for the development of Jikji culture.

  • Jikji, a metal type book published at Heungdeoksa Temple in Cheongju during the Goryeo Dynasty, still stands as a byword representing mankind's grandiose invention of metal type printing along with the German metal type Gutenberg.

The flame symbolizes the state in which the fires of these civilizations are ignited and started, in addition to marking high technology capable of melting iron to make metal type, while expressing the cultural power that made a high-quality spiritual culture blossom by printing books.
