Jikji ("白雲和尙抄錄佛祖直指心體要節" (“Baegun hwasang chorok buljo jikji simche yojeol” in full)), which translates to "Anthology of Great Buddhist Priests' Zen Teachings," was printed at Heungdeoksa Temple in Cheongjun in 1377 (3rd year of the reign of Goryeo's King Wu).
Originally, it was made in two volumes. Vol. 1 has disappeared, and Vol. 2 is kept at the National Library of France.
There are two duplicates of the book. One has been made based on the results of scientific analysis of the original, and the other, based on the guesswork on its status at the time of its original printing in 1377. Visitors will have the pleasure of comparing the two.
The digitalized book Jikji is a book specially made after reconfiguring the content of Jikji—the oldest book printed with movable metal types—its story, and the manufacturing process of movable metal types and analogic feel added to it.
This book is designed to help visitors enjoy diverse immersive content while turning the pages with the application of projection mapping and capacitive touch technology. One having a firsthand experience of the book will find it an interesting, fresh adventure. The event of duplicates of the original Jikji and digital book Jikji is an attempt to share the significance of recorded cultural heritage with more people while striving to preserve such records. It will be a precious opportunity to have a firsthand look at the book and shed light on its value anew through the special event.
