Jikji, the oldest existing book of movable metal print in the world, was registered with the UNESCO Memory of the World Register in 2001.
The UNESCO/Jikji Memory of the World Prize was established in 2004 in commemoration of Jikji’s registration with the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. The prize is presented biannually by the city of Cheongju to any individual or organization making a marked contribution to the preservation of and access to recorded cultural heritage of the world.

During the 2024 Jikji Festival, we will introduce the list of prize winners including those for 2024 (10th annual event) and hold an event of major activities they carried out in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of establishment of the prize.
At this special event, visitors will have a precious opportunity to see firsthand the recorded cultural heritage of the world preserved as precious materials including ancient document/books, relevant digitalized/image/voice materials, etc. They will find it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reflect on the significance of the world heritage represented by Jikji and mankind’s effort for their preservation.
